someone pretty much stole 200 bucks from me. whats the best thing to do?

Question: one of my friends texted me saying that he was in LA and he saw a nice car that he wanted me to get. he said that if i sent him 700 bucks he would loan me the other 800 and i could pay him back later and he would drive the car back. since ive known him for about 1 year and a half i trusted him. but i didnt send him 700 i sent him 200 because thats all i had. i sent it to him thru moneygram to las vegas where he would go and pick it up at a walmrt. right when i sent him the money he wouldnt answer his phone and wouldnt text back. after so many texts and calls he tells me to stop texting him and that im annoying. next day i text him and ask him if he got the car and he says that hes 200 bucks short because he spent some money on a room and food. so he says send me 200 more and hell bring the car. i tell him nevermind about the car just send me back the money cuz i cant get anymore to send. he says hell just give me back the money the next day he gets back from LA which was yewsterday night. so i call him and text him at about 11 pm and no answer or response except a text that says you need to stop calling because im busy. so i tell him all of a sudden your busy and dont text back when i send you the money and he doesnt text back. so today i text him one more time when are you gonna give me the money. and no response so i text him saying im tired of this if youy dont give me my money then im going to file a lawsuit against you. he texts back finally and says that hes still in Las Vegas doing some work and that he will be back on friday even though yesterday he said he needed to be back on sunday. so i start to suspect that hes not gonna give me my money so i tell him once again that if he doesnt give me my money by friday then im going to file a law suit and he texts back one more time sayin "if thats what you want then go for it you stupid ****". what should i do? wairt till friday or file the lawsuit and is it a good idea to file the lawsuit? i have all the text messages as evidence. is that enough? i know his full name and i even have his license number but i dont know his exact adress. but i do know that it is in the same county somewhere around where i live. someone please give me ideas. thanks - marco

Answer: Well, a Big Bad Muthafucka should know better than to do something like this. You should probably chalk it up to stupidity and learn your lesson from the experience. You could take him to court, but it would cost money to do and take up some time, all for only $200. Plus, you have no evidence. Even if you could either prove that you sent money to him, or if he admitted you sent it to him, all he has to do is deny that it was a loan. You have no agreement in writing with him. IF you have all of those text messages saved, and he agrees in them to pay you back, or acknowledges that he owes you the money, you MIGHT be able to win in small claims court. It's likely not worth it based on the amount of money and your lack of evidence or agreement though.
